Flexibility and efficiency: the ECOBURN H2 FLEX in focus
Sustainable burner technology for industry.
The effort to decarbonize the metals industry poses great challenges for new technologies. These challenges are, however, being met by EBNER’s ECOBURN H2 FLEX burner – an extremely flexible burner solution that can be operated with either natural gas or hydrogen as a fuel.
In the following interview, EBNER’s Peter Seemann (Senior Principal Technology Expert) and Michael Koller (Senior Product and Business Developer Customer Services) spoke about the innovations integrated into ECOBURN H2 FLEX burners and the advantages they bring.
What measures has EBNER taken to comply with legal limits on emissions values and other environmental regulations??
Koller: At facilities with “flamed” burners, EBNER emphasizes optimized combustion air control and a finely-tuned nozzle arrangement to achieve low emission values. For high-temperature facilities, we developed our flameless burner technology – a proven technology that provides particularly low NOx values.
The ECOBURN H2 FLEX burner is designed to operate with both hydrogen (H₂) and natural gas. What makes this system so innovative?
Seemann: H2 FLEX burners can operate with both natural gas and hydrogen, which can be mixed in any desired ratio without the need for any structural modifications. The system also allows output to be continuously regulated, which significantly improves operational efficiency and flexibility.
What advantages are offered by the ECOBURN H2 FLEX design?
Koller: Its greatest advantage is the great versatility in terms of the fuel gas that is used. The burner can be operated with either pure or mixed fuel gas, in any concentration. This makes the burner particularly future-oriented, as it can adapt to a changing energy landscape.
Which EBNER facilities have already had ECOBURN H2 FLEX burners installed in them?
Seemann: The burner is currently in a testing and evaluation phase. Widespread use in an industrial environment will largely depend on the availability of hydrogen as a fuel gas.
The bottom line:
With the ECOBURN H2 FLEX, EBNER has taken an important step toward low-emission industrial processes. Its combination of flexible fuel gas usage and innovative combustion technology makes this burner a future-oriented solution for heat treatment.
