Machines, people and Murphy's Law: my day-to-day work at EBNER

Georg Gattringer
Executive Vice President Production

I have been working for EBNER Industrieofenbau since 1999. After my apprenticeship as a fitter, I gained valuable experience in production, assembly and external manufacturing. At the same time, I completed my A-levels while working. Today, as Executive Vice President Production, I am responsible for all work preparation and production.

Describe your job in a single sentence.

As production manager, I am responsible for planning, controlling and monitoring production processes, the safety of my employees and apprentice training. This is how I ensure the efficient and high-quality manufacture of our products.

When you are on your way to work in the morning, what are you looking forward to?

I’m looking forward to going to work tomorrow because it’s great to manage machines, people and Murphy’s Law (anything that can go wrong, will go wrong) at the same time – and all before the first coffee 😉.

What was the most interesting experience you have had at EBNER?

There have certainly been many interesting experiences in 26 years, but one in particular has stuck in my memory. It was a very spontaneous assignment shortly after my apprenticeship. On Friday afternoon, I was asked if I would travel to Indonesia because there was a plant shutdown. On Saturday morning, I was on the plane without further ado, with 30 kg of spare parts in my luggage and a lot of question marks in my head, as I had never seen a plant like this in operation before. It was a stressful but also very valuable experience for me.

Everyone needs inspiration and motivation to get through the daily grind. What keeps you going?

I find our products very exciting and individual and appreciate the constructive collaboration with my team and, of course, the daily challenges. It is also an experience when we can successfully implement an idea.

What does your typical day-to-day work at EBNER look like?

No two days are the same, because my area is extremely diverse. From HR topics to technology, costing and procurement. You’re involved in everything and that gives you a very broad perspective, which makes the job very exciting and interesting.

What benefits do you value most at EBNER?

What I appreciate most is the company restaurant, the good working atmosphere, the flexible working hours and the joint events outside working hours.

What advice would you give someone who wanted to apply for a job at EBNER?

Be prepared to take responsibility. And be communicative, because you can have the best idea – if you can’t explain it, it will stay in your head. Think “out of the box” and question things that are considered fundamental.
